Child care in America currently costs more than the average cost of in-state college tuition. Working families, particularly people of color, are disproportionately impacted by the outrageous costs of child care. But all children deserve the opportunity to not only survive but also thrive, which includes ensuring that they are educated and cared for in safe, nurturing environments.
One solution to address the child care crisis in America is the Child Care for Working Families Act -- a bold new bill that not only provides direct financial assistance for child care and early learning expenses, on a sliding scale based on household income, but takes a comprehensive approach -- addressing child care challenges like the quality, availability, and flexibility of care. The bill would provide important opportunities for all families in need of child care assistance… but to move forward it needs more support in Congress.

Passing this bill wouldn’t just be a win for the working families who need help finding and paying for child care that meets their needs, it would also provide a much-needed boost for educators. Early childhood educators in the U.S. are mostly female and drastically underpaid, with African American teachers earning even less than their underpaid counterparts. This bill also invests in the dedicated people who are caring for and teaching our children.
Every child deserves access to good and enriching care -- child care quality shouldn’t depend on someone’s income, race, or zip code.
