Trump just nominated extreme anti-LGBTQ bigot Jeff Mateer to a lifetime seat on a federal court in Texas and this nomination is so beyond the pale, marking such a new low in Trump’s already unprecedentedly extreme string of judicial nominees, that if we can’t stop his confirmation, our country is in even worse trouble than we thought.
Mateer spoke at the 2015 Radical Right “Kill the Gays” Conference -- an extreme anti-LGBTQ event organized by a far-right pastor who's advocated for the death penalty for gay people.
He once described transgender youth as part of “Satan’s plan,” he’s advocated for the dangerous practice of “conversion therapy” for LGBTQ people, and he’s said that the Supreme Court’s decision allowing same-sex marriage could lead to bestiality.
This is an all-hands-on-deck emergency call to action to STOP this nomination in its tracks.

If Mateer can be confirmed, then ANY nominee -- no matter how unfit, unethical, or unhinged -- can be confirmed … and Trump and the Radical Right will have a green light to run roughshod over our entire judicial branch.
As a lawyer for the Religious Right First Liberty Institute, Mateer focused on cases that were part of the Right’s ongoing crusade to redefine religious liberty as a right to discriminate, particularly against LGBTQ people.
The confirmation of an ideologue as extreme as Mateer would be an unforgivable affront to American values like equality, fairness, and an independent judiciary that acts as an arbiter of justice for all Americans.
There is no nominee we’ve seen who has been more unfit, with a record more disqualifying, than Jeff Mateer.
