Big Money political bribery over the next few months will make a mockery of our democracy. Right-wing dark money groups, including those in the Koch brothers’ network, are spending millions to confirm Trump’s radical right-wing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh -- who, if confirmed, could open up our elections to even more Big Money spending. Donald Trump himself has already raised a staggering $90 million for his 2020 reelection bid -- much of it from mega-high-dollar fundraisers at his own properties. Since the Supreme Court’s 5-4 Citizens United decision in 2010, corporate super PACs and deep-pocketed special interest groups have increasingly flooded our elections with mountains of cash – much of it secret dark money. But America is fighting back. The movement to pass a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United -- a task once thought to be impossible -- is gathering steam. Already 19 states have passed resolutions and ballot initiatives in favor of an amendment. Over 800 cities and towns have passed resolutions as well … more initiatives are on the ballot this year and it looks like 2020 will see a bunch more. More and more state and local governments have passed legislation that cuts big money and returns power to the people. And more and more candidates are voluntarily refusing big money donations because they know that standing up for your principles counts with voters. Ben runs the Stampede, a group of 100,000 Americans that have discovered a new, super effective, and affordable way to make our voice heard and build the movement to get Big Money out of politics. We’re partnering with People For the American Way and asking you to join us in turning money into media and engaging in some economic jiu jitsu by stamping dollar bills with the message, "Not To Be Used To Buy Elections." It’s totally legal and makes a lasting impression. Stamping currency is not only a good way to get the message out, but the act itself is a great way to stamp out your own frustrations with Big Money's assault on our democracy. It's a simple act, to be sure, but it's also an act of defiance ... of resistance ... and it's a proven effective way to spread the message and get even more people thinking about the problem of money in politics. Each stamped bill is viewed on average 875 times. You can be part of one of the most effective “guerilla advertising” campaigns out there -- and all for one of the best causes imaginable: saving our democracy. Together, our stampers have already stamped millions of bills with messages against Big Money in politics. And with the most important midterm election of our lives just weeks away, we need to step up our efforts. Big Money in politics is the barrier to so much progress our country desperately needs. Corporate-friendly policies that harm the environment, consumers, and workers, and that take money away working families to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy few, have all been brought to you courtesy of Big Money. With just your PFAW stamp in hand and the dollars in your pocket, YOU can help keep this momentum going. Every dollar you stamp will let hundreds of people know that the money that has passed by you is "Not To Be Used To Buy Elections." And one lucky stamper will get a year’s worth of free ice cream! Thanks for taking a stand (and a stamp) for democracy. -- Ben & Jerry (the ice cream guys) Get YOUR stamp with a donation to PFAW today!
