The restrictive Texas abortion law S.B. 8 went into effect on September 1, effectively banning abortion care after only six weeks of pregnancy – before most people even know they’re pregnant. This law and other bills currently moving through the Louisiana and Mississippi legislatures threaten abortion health care nationwide – but there’s a clear path to preventing these outrageous bills from taking effect.
The Women’s Health Protection Act (H.R. 3755/S.1975) is a bill that would provide federal protections for reproductive care broadly and abortion care specifically – and it’s designed to put an end to, and declare illegal, restrictive laws like S.B. 8. By passing WHPA, our legislators would lift barriers to care that disproportionately harm people of color, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, low-income people, and people living in rural areas, especially in states where these draconian laws are being passed now.
With Roe v. Wade hanging in the balance of a radical right-wing Supreme Court, we don't have time to waste. To save every person’s right to access abortion care, we need urgent action in Congress.
Demand that Congress immediately take up and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act without delay!
