Tell Congress to Support the Supreme Court Ethics Act!

Congress:

Public confidence in the impartiality and integrity of the U.S. Supreme Court has been on a steep decline recently.  One of the reasons for this loss of confidence is the complete lack of any code of ethics that applies to our Supreme Court justices, and several recent examples have arisen of justices failing to recuse themselves from cases in which the appearance of their impartiality could well have been questioned. Therefore, as your constituent, I ask that you support the Supreme Court Ethics Act introduced by Senator Murphy and Representative Johnson as soon as possible.

The Supreme Court is currently the only federal court that is not governed by a binding ethical code of conduct – and this needs to change.

Recent examples of Supreme Court justices refusing to recuse themselves from cases where there is an obvious or perceived potential conflict of interest have shaken Americans’ faith in the integrity and impartiality of our nation’s highest court.

The Supreme Court Ethics Act, introduced by Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA), would help remedy this situation by requiring the Judicial Conference of the United States to develop and implement a code of ethical conduct for the U.S. Supreme Court.
