It is time for Congress to extend all legal protections from discrimination to the LGBTQ community.
The LGBTQ equality movement has come a long way over the last ten years, but we are still far from acquiring the full scope of legal protections afforded to other vulnerable classes of individuals. Our nation’s civil rights laws protect people on the basis of race, color, national origin, and in most cases, sex, disability, and religion. However our current federal law does not provide the same protections based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and we believe its time for that to change.
The Equality Act ensures that every person will be afforded equal protection under the law by making it illegal discriminate on the basis of LGBTQ identity.
