Tell the Senate: Don’t Put Justice Behind a Paywall

U.S. SENATE:

I demand that you reject the dangerous provision in the Senate budget bill that would require people to pay massive bonds before a court could temporarily block illegal or harmful actions by the federal government. It would effectively make it impossible for everyday people and public interest groups to hold the Trump administration – or any presidential administration – accountable in court. Justice should not be reserved for the wealthy. You must remove this provision to protect access to the courts for all.

Senate Republicans just introduced a provision in the federal budget bill that would make it nearly impossible for everyday people or public interest groups to quickly stop illegal actions by the Trump regime.

Under this provision, anyone suing the federal government and asking the court to temporarily block them from carrying out a harmful and illegal policy while the case proceeds would have to put up a MASSIVE bond – potentially millions or even billions of dollars.

If this becomes law, people facing serious harm would lose their ability to seek quick relief from our federal courts. And the Trump regime would be free to push through destructive, unlawful policies without consequence – because almost no one could afford to stop them. By the time the court made a final decision, the damage would be done.

This is a direct attack on the public’s access to justice. It’s meant to intimidate and block everyday people from standing up to the abuses pushed by the Trump administration.
