Congress Must Act on Trump’s Decline

Congress must act now to pass H.R. 8275 and establish the Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of the Office, as authorized under the twenty-fifth amendment to the Constitution. At a moment when serious concerns about presidential fitness are being raised publicly and across the political spectrum, we cannot afford to rely on incomplete safeguards. This bipartisan, independent commission would provide a clear, evidence-based process to evaluate a president’s ability to carry out the duties of the office if necessary.
