Urge the Senate to Pass the Equality Act!

To: U.S. Senate

While the LGBTQ movement has come a long way over the years, LGBTQ people still aren't guaranteed the same federal protections from discrimination that protect people on the basis of their race, color, national origin, sex, disability, and religion. The Equality Act passed in the House over a year ago seeks to ensure that every person will be protected from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, regardless of where they live.

I urge you to pass the Equality Act in the Senate immediately and protect the LGBTQ community from the real and persistent discrimination it continues to face.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects LGBTQ people from discrimination in the workplace! This gives us amazing momentum that we cannot squander.

There is still a patchwork of state laws that provide differing nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people in health care, education, housing, and all aspects of public life.

It’s now more urgent than ever that the Senate pass the Equality Act, which has already passed in the House and would amend our nation’s civil rights laws to provide protection from discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity in all 50 states.
